Join the ESPD Mentorship Scheme – as a Mentor or a Mentee!
The ESPD Mentorship Scheme was launched at the 18th Annual Meeting in London in 2018 and continued in Dubrovnik in 2019. Since then, it has become an established initiative, offering online mentorship opportunities (via Zoom or Skype) or, if both parties agree, in another format.
This unique scheme aims to provide trainees in Paediatric Dermatology with access to one-to-one mentorship from senior ESPD members. Each session lasts one hour and is designed to offer tailored professional support. Mentees may select their preferred mentors from a regularly updated list, with the opportunity to be matched with a new mentor once per year.
How the Scheme Works
-
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to ESPD members from European countries. Participation begins as soon as ESPD membership is approved. -
Choosing a mentor:
Before requesting a match, trainees should carefully review the list of available mentors, including their clinical and research expertise. This helps ensure that the chosen mentor’s experience aligns with the mentee’s goals and interests. While every effort will be made to assign mentees to one of their preferred mentors, this cannot be guaranteed. If multiple mentees request the same mentor, the system will assign one at random. - Mentor list

Format of mentorship:
Mentorship takes the form of a confidential discussion driven by the mentee’s needs. Topics may include:-
Training requirements and routes
-
Part-time working
-
Academic and research opportunities
-
Other professional issues in Paediatric Dermatology
The mentor’s role is to listen, share insights, and offer guidance based on their professional experience. Mentors are not expected to provide employment opportunities, ongoing supervision, or projects. However, if both parties agree, a follow-up meeting may be arranged within the year.
