Call for expression of interest to act as the Professional Conference Organiser & Association Management Provider for the European Society for Pediatric Dermatology

 

 

1)    Call for expression of interest to act as the Professional Conference Organiser

 

The European Society for Pediatric Dermatology (ESPD) is calling for expressions of interest for a Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) for their annual conference, beginning in 2023 for a period of six years, and including annual conferences 2023-2028 inclusive.  Thereafter the tender will be offered publicly again, and the encumbant PCO can apply to continue in their role if they wish, and for an indefinite number of six year contracts.  The application form for the expression of interest is here.

 

The ESPD Annual Congress is held every year in one of the European cities and is considered the main scientific gathering in the field of Paediatric Dermatology on the European level. The conference is held in the Spring or Summer (usually May or June) for 3 days (usually Thursday through to Saturday). However, the dates are subject to change upon agreement between the ESPD, ESPD Office and the Local Organising Committee. The conference  usually attracts between 600 and 800 delegates, 15-20 exhibitors and 200 posters (100 poster boards). Recent  ESPD conferences  have been held in Paris (2016), Palma de Mallorca (2017), London (2018),  and Dubrovnik (2019). The 2021 ESPD conference was arranged for Vienna and took place virtually. Future meetings are planned in Munich (2022), Málaga (2023), Košice (2024) and Brussels (2025).

Indicative Time-Plan Call:

Step 1: Call for expression of interest: November 2021

Step 2: Selection Process: January 2022          

Step 3: Interviews with potential candidates: Monday 17 January 2022 (Time TBA)

Step 4: Decision taken: by Friday 21st January 2022  

Step 5: Contract signed by and beginning of contract: 23rd May 2022 

 

Submission of Tender Deadline: 5pm (CET) Friday 17th December 2021

Applicants shortlisted will be invited to make a presentation on 17th January 2022 at the virtual meeting of the Board of Directors of the ESPD.  This should be a 10 minute presentation detailing the applicants’ past experience, methods of working, and proposed budget.

 

At the same time we are offering expressions of interest to provide secretarial services to the ESPD.

 

2)    Call for expression of interest to provide Association Management Services for the European Society for Pediatric Dermatology

 

This is a full time role for companies or an individual, who must have excellent oral and written English, and involves the activities listed in the accompanying application form.  Briefly these duties are secretarial duties surrounding membership, support of the executive board, and management of simple website alterations for which training will be given (not website design).

This tender is also offered initially for a period of six years and can be granted to the same or different groups as the PCO.   The application form for this tender is here.

Speaker: Prof. Regina Betz

Regina Betz is Professor of Dermatogenetics at the Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Bonn in Germany. After studying medicine at the University of Saarland and the Karolinska Institute Stockholm, she worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Karolinska Institute Stockholm, and the Universities of Freiburg, Bonn and Antwerp before she started her Emmy Noether young investigator research group in Bonn in 2004. In 2010, she was appointed as Heisenberg Professor for Dermatogenetics in Bonn which became tenure in 2015. The particular research focus of her working group is dermatogenetics, with a main interest in diverse forms of monogenic and genetically complex alopecias and hyperpigmentation disorders. The work, and primarily the elucidation of numerous disease genes, was rewarded by a number of prizes and awards and is documented in more than 140 publications, among them several publications in high ranking international journals (e.g. Nature Genet., Am J Hum Genet, J Invest Dermatol, Br J Dermatol). Dr. Betz has a board qualification in Human Genetics.

Speaker: Dr. Elena Hawryluk

Elena B. Hawryluk, MD, PhD is a board-certified Dermatologist and Pediatric Dermatologist, and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, where she serves as the Faculty Director of Pediatric Dermatology for the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program.  After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with degrees in Computer Science and Biological Sciences, she completed her medical degree (MD) and PhD (Cell Biology and Molecular Physiology) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Medical Scientist Training Program.  Dr. Hawryluk completed her dermatology residency at Harvard Medical School, where she served as a Chief Resident.  Subsequently, she undertook subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric Dermatology at Boston Children's Hospital.  

 

Dr. Hawryluk serves on committees for the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD), the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), and is an Associate Editor for Pediatric Dermatology. Dr. Hawryluk has a clinical interest in pigmented lesions and melanoma in the pediatric population, and cares for patients at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.  She has been supported by the SPD and PeDRA’s Weston Career Development Award and the Dermatology Foundation Pediatric Dermatology Career Development Award. Dr. Hawryluk was awarded a 2020 AAD Presidential Citation Award in recognition of her leadership with the Skin Cancer Initiative as Chair of the Melanoma/Skin Cancer Programs Committee and engagement with collaborative partners to affect significant behavior change around sun protection.
