Speaker: Prof. Carlo Gelmetti

Carlo Gelmetti was born in Milan (Italy) and studied medicine at the University of Milan Medical School and then Dermatology under the late professor Ferdinando Gianotti. Professor of Dermatology and Venereology since 2001, he has been the Head of the Pediatric Dermatology Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda “Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico”, until November 2020 when he retired. Member of many academic societies (EADV, AAD, ADA, ISPD, ESPD) he is particularly interested in genodermatoses, vascular anomalies, exanthems, atopic dermatitis, nevi and history of dermatology.

Speaker: Prof. Linda De Raeve

Linda De Raeve is Professor  Em. of Paediatric Dermatology at the University Hospital of Brussels, VUB, Brussels.  Her doctoral thesis  (PhD) was on the curettage of giant congenital melanocytic naevi in the neonate. She was one of the founders and is a board member of the Belgian Society of Paediatric Dermatology and of the European Task Force on Atopic Dermatitis. She has also been a board member of the European Society of Paediatric Dermatology and the International Society of Paediatric Dermatology.  She has published widely in the field of Paediatric Dermatology, has spoken as an invited lecturer at national and international meetings worldwide, and is a regular reviewer for scientific journals. Research interests include atopic dermatitis, congenital melanocytic naevi and melanoma, and genodermatoses.

Speaker: Prof. Regina Betz

Regina Betz is Professor of Dermatogenetics at the Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Bonn in Germany. After studying medicine at the University of Saarland and the Karolinska Institute Stockholm, she worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Karolinska Institute Stockholm, and the Universities of Freiburg, Bonn and Antwerp before she started her Emmy Noether young investigator research group in Bonn in 2004. In 2010, she was appointed as Heisenberg Professor for Dermatogenetics in Bonn which became tenure in 2015. The particular research focus of her working group is dermatogenetics, with a main interest in diverse forms of monogenic and genetically complex alopecias and hyperpigmentation disorders. The work, and primarily the elucidation of numerous disease genes, was rewarded by a number of prizes and awards and is documented in more than 140 publications, among them several publications in high ranking international journals (e.g. Nature Genet., Am J Hum Genet, J Invest Dermatol, Br J Dermatol). Dr. Betz has a board qualification in Human Genetics.

Speaker: Dr. Elena Hawryluk

Elena B. Hawryluk, MD, PhD is a board-certified Dermatologist and Pediatric Dermatologist, and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, where she serves as the Faculty Director of Pediatric Dermatology for the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program.  After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with degrees in Computer Science and Biological Sciences, she completed her medical degree (MD) and PhD (Cell Biology and Molecular Physiology) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Medical Scientist Training Program.  Dr. Hawryluk completed her dermatology residency at Harvard Medical School, where she served as a Chief Resident.  Subsequently, she undertook subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric Dermatology at Boston Children's Hospital.  

 

Dr. Hawryluk serves on committees for the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD), the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), and is an Associate Editor for Pediatric Dermatology. Dr. Hawryluk has a clinical interest in pigmented lesions and melanoma in the pediatric population, and cares for patients at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.  She has been supported by the SPD and PeDRA’s Weston Career Development Award and the Dermatology Foundation Pediatric Dermatology Career Development Award. Dr. Hawryluk was awarded a 2020 AAD Presidential Citation Award in recognition of her leadership with the Skin Cancer Initiative as Chair of the Melanoma/Skin Cancer Programs Committee and engagement with collaborative partners to affect significant behavior change around sun protection.
