Airport
Palma de Mallorca (PMI) Airport or Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca (Son Sant Joan Airport) is a major airport located approximately 8 km east to Palma city. It is the third largest airport in Spain and one of the busiest airports in Europe during the summer months. The city airport is served by lots of airline companies from many European countries. Banks and credit cards
Almost all credit and debit cards are accepted on the island and most banks have cash points. There are banking institutions in all towns and villages. In tourist areas, there are also bureaux de change.

Climate
The climate in Palma is typically Mediterranean. It has warm average temperatures and seasonal rains. In the summer it is hot and dry. The average annual temperature is between 16°C and 18°C. In the summer, the maximum average is between 29°C and 31°C. Sometimes it can get up to 41°C in during the summer months. The minimum average winter temperature (at night) is between 5 and 9°C and sometimes it fall to -6°C during the winter months. Mallorca’s annual rainfall varies. The rainfall on the island is very irregular.

Electricity
The power supply in Spain is 220-225 volts, though some hotels still have 100 - 120 volt inlets. Sockets accept two-round-pin style plugs, so an adaptor is needed for most non-continental appliances and a transformer for appliances operating on 100-120 volts.

Local time
Like the rest of Spain, Mallorca is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+1), but from late March until late September, summer time (GMT+2) applies.

Taxes (VAT – IVA in Spain)
Keep an eye out for the appearance of extra costs on your bill. Some hoteliers, restaurateurs and shopkeepers include VAT (IVA) currently at 21%, in the price, others don't. It is worth checking the menu to see whether it will be included or added. It is not compulsory to include VAT in prices quoted but you should be aware of the possible hidden cost or the bargain meal you thought you had found might not turn out to be such good value after all.

The 17th ESPD Annual Meeting will be held in the Meliá Palas Atenea Hotel - Paseo Ingeniero Gabriel Roca, 29, Palma de Mallorca.

Visas
The passport holders from EU Member States can enter and leave without limitations. Citizens from the USA and Latin America, except those from Cuba, Peru and Dominican Republic, can enter the Balearic Islands as tourists without a visa and stay there up to 90 days.

Weather in October can be changeable so pack a jumper and a jacket just to be sure as there are occasional rainy and windy days. Evening temperatures can drop to less than 20º C. However, the nice thing about October is that the sea temperature is still warm! So perfect for swimming and watersports.
